I decided to read the Bible this year and this weekend i'll go to the bookstore to buy one, the problem is that i don't know which one to read, should i choose the old testament or the new one? And why? Please help me

I want to apostatize and i think it's very important to read the Bible first to see if i still have the same idea at the end. I want to read it because of its cultural value in the world and because i want to understand better everything that surrounds me. Is the first time i will do so i have no idea of the differences and don't know why there are two versions
