So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back, ceaselessly into the past
DUDE AMERICAN DREAM IS A LIE LMAO
>>9602465
But is it tho?
>>9602461
It's not. The book got big because of a gubbermint contract putting "war editions" with soldiers in the trenches, anon.
Cuz Tom Buchanan speaks the truth about the niggers and the lower races.

He's great the same way Barnum was great.
I think Tender is the Night is his best book.Gatsby has sharp clean prose, but that's about all. TITN is full of beautiful poetics from start to finish

Is there anything more embarrassing than someone who goes out of their way to defend American policemen?
>>9602522
Why do you hate cops anon?
>>9602465
Gatsby isn't about the "American Dream," it's about nostalgia.
>>9602477
go back there
>>9602519
I agree TITN is his best work, although I would argue Gatsby has some beautiful poetics as well.
Anyway, despite the rampant contrarianism on here, Fitzgerald was a great writer with a wonderful command of the English language. Gatsby is also structured efficiently and is a perfect length - hence its ongoing use in high schools. Although nearly a century later the commentary on materialism/American dream/nostalgia might seem trite - Fitzgerald nevertheless hit the nail on the head and has been aped for decades now by other artists

at first I shrugged and thought whatever, sure, but now I'm actually wonder how it is about nostalgia at all. explain yourself faggot
>>9602592
Not him, but perhaps the fact Gatsby is trying to recreate that golden period he had with Daisy before the war plays into this.
Tries and fails that is - like Nick says "You can't repeat the past" and Gatsby goes "Why of course you can" and ends up cucked and shot dead for his troubles

beautiful prose
tragic characters
a sense of nostalgia (parties, women, small talks with friends) and a sense of impending tragedy (the presence of the automobile)
So we beat off, cocks against the
current,
bare back, ceaselessly into my ass
