OP here. I wanted a woman hate thread on /lit/. I don't care whether the statement is true or not, or the reasons behind it. I just want you all to agree with me that they're inherently inferior to me and it is no loss that I can't attract one or form a meaningful relationship with one.

Its written for children, so it's inherently easier to understand. Most women are vehemently against the idea of mentally challenging themselves, and the rare few aren't as focal about their tastes.

The books are easy light reads accessible to a wide spectrum of society allowing a greater social aspect? Just my speculation.

The reading women I know all read adult fiction and are overwhelmingly accomplished career-women with families. It's mostly younger women that seem to like YA so much.

My experience with the lesser gender has nothing to do with mine opinion on them, fool.

Women are more avid readers in general but I really doubt they are more brainlet in terms of stuff like linguistic ability based on everything I have ever seen in my life, so I don't really buy the "They're not intelligent enough" idea. There are more men at the extremes of IQ than women so the "greats" still seem to skew male, and on top of that there was exclusion of women from academia for a long time, but generally women seem more competent at things like reading than men not less when you look at the entire population and not the extremes.

If I had to guess why they made up most of the YA readership it is

A: Women read more in general

B: Women like to read books other people have read because they're more likely then men to use reading as a social experience

C: Womens free time and social lives drop more precipitously than Mens once they have children and get out of age range to read YA? When I see older women read they rarely read YA unless they're so ronery and want to read about some vampire stud.

D: I don't think the quality of romance novels, which women overwhelmingly read, goes up with reading level much. In some ways a difficult romance novel can be worse.

There is a successful used paperback trader in my area that has been in business for 25 years. Their price structure is shitty. They are located in a C class location small strip mall. Their bread and butter are romance and YA. 80% of the store is taken up by romance and YA. The store always has cat ladies and fat girls in there trading and buying romance and YA novels by the shopping bag full. I hate the price structure but I can buy books with cover prices at the thrift store for under a buck and get more credit for it at the paperback trader that tends to get a flush of classics and Sci-fi/Fantasy for a few weeks when college lets out so I can get decent stuff for like a $1.50 a book.
