That being said, Roadside Picnic is superior.

Follows in the typical Russian style of waffling on and padding out events with internal melodrama nonsense. I don't mind waffling that creates atmosphere, but this doesn't do that.

Unless someone has made a better translation since I read it, don't bother. Half of the book is mindless contemplation and indecipherable metaphor.
