This.
Movie industry has been dead since the 70s and onward and is nothing more than a marketing business now. Pop culture from the 80s really ruined the quality of what is produced now, the public would rather have a catchphrase they can meme all summer so that it can be forgotten and disposed when the next one comes out rather than a movie with genuine depth.

The Wailing is a great film that came out last year. It's Korean though, so if you can't do subtitles, skip it. Otherwise, I think it's one of the best films I've seen in a long time.

I agree foreign movies seem to be more innovative than American based movies, I actually enjoy watching more foreign movies than I do whatever comes out of the US or my country, the UK. That's probably because our industry is so underexposed though.
As for subtitles I love them.
I think the same, but like >>9560006 said, it probably should've been made in the 70s by Robert Altman

yeah i got a really altman vibe reading it
only he could have done it justice
but tarkovsky was right, you should only adapt imperfect novels. theres literally 0 reason to adapt a perfect novel (except to make money off plebs)

I think it would make a great 10 episode mini series on HBO. Maybe 15 episodes.
Could be really sweet. Because of the French scene setup, I always imagine the tv/movie version as one continuous shot (like birdman). Would be hard as fuck to do, though.
Either way, great book. Screenplay would be easy to do. The dialogue would be 10x better than most movies/tv these days. Also, Sorkin would probably make a cool version of it.
