Everywhere he goes, he wears a hat that says, "Navy," and a t-shirt that says it too. All he wants to talk about, at any given time, is the navy.

I just take it as his way of saying that he's gay.

It's very well researched, which gives it an immersive feel. It's also slow-paced and literary in tone. Pretty much the antithesis of popular historical fiction.
