Then just read sparknotes and Wikipedia. They'll give you your plot.

You're supposed to read it for the themes. If a book can't make you look at something in a way you never looked at it before, then it's not doing its job.

How can you separate themes from the plot? Do you mean to say that it's a matter of considering what you read, as opposed to "ingesting" it?
