Has anyone here read it? If so was it good, and should I bother picking it up? Thanks in advance

Don't know, but The Collector was fantastic, and a man at the airport who saw me reading it recommended The Magus, finding it a "deeply superior novel," i.e. He didn't understand it and mistook his ignorance for the book's brilliance.
Currently ~250 pages in. I've never read any Fowles before, but I like it very much and recommend. So far, it has effectively held suspense while driving me further into the surreal mystery. Fairly patrician and self-aware, lots of references to art, music, literature. Go for it.
It's very good. Fowles in general is very under-rated on this board

It's great OP, I haven't read The Collector but I loved The Magus, it's a strange mix of beautiful scenery, it really makes you love swimming and pines and the sun, but at the same time a bit of a nightmare.

Super gimmicky. Just plot twist after plot twist. It's fun, but completely insubstantial. Probably makes upper plebs feel smart.
Magus left an impression on me.
Worth the read, you'll tear through it anyway.
Watch out for that Greek boipucci.

Got about 3/4ths of the way through it in high school, was too beyond me
i thought it was very comfy, but as it went on, it got very stupid and middlebrow. almost makes me wonder what the story could have been, if the last half was totally redone.

^this
the french-lieutenant's woman is a way better book, even if victorian sexual repression isn't as interesting of a concept

I gave up on it 2/3rds of the way through. I just got tired of all the le tricked XD riddles and twists. The Collector was GOAT though.
