I wanna be black, have natural rhythm
Shoot twenty foot of jism too
And fuck up the jews
I wanna be black, I wanna be a panther
Have a girlfriend named Samantha
And have a stable of foxy whores
Oh, oh, I wanna be black
I don't wanna be a fucked up
Middle class college student anymore
I just wanna have a stable of
Foxy little whores
Yeah, yeah, I wanna be black
Oh, oh, I wanna be black
Yeah, yeah, I wanna be black
I wanna be black, wanna be like Martin Luther King
And get myself shot in the spring
And lead a whole generation, too
And fuck up the jews
I wanna be black, I wanna be like Malcolm X
And cast a hex
Over President Kennedy's tomb
And have a big prick, too
Oh, I don't wanna be a fucked up
Middle class college student no more
Yeah, I just wanna have a
Stable of foxy little whores
Yeah, yeah, I wanna be black
I wanna be black
I wanna be black
I wanna be black
I wanna be black
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I wanna be black
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I wanna be black
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I wanna be black
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, I wanna be black, oh, oh)

>from The Big Game is Every Night
If really I am the snake they're all saying
If they look up here do they see just my black tail swaying?
If I'm all fangs and all lies and all poison
If I'm really what they're saying
I don't want to disappoint them.
>from Lioness
Whether you save me
Whether you savage me
Want my last look to be the moon in your eyes
Want my heart to break if it must break in your jaws
Want you to lick my blood off your paws
>from Just Be Simple
You'll never hear me talk about one day getting out
Why put a new address on the same old loneliness
Everybody knows where that is
We built that house of his
And when he's not home
Someone else you know always is
If Heaven's really coming back
I hope it has a heart attack

The rocks crumble
Unto dust they die
Once hard stuff of mountains
Now soft powder among the sand
Who dares crush a rock
Oh rock, no rock
Reduced to the winds
Scatter your parts
You are not one but many
To those shall you succumb
Beast of time, you hurl your heavens sporadic
Falling in the great parade
March unto your death
And into what arms will you go
Surely not your own
Oh God, oh God, be you my hope
And all else ruffles in the winds
Magic carpets fly to your planets
You have no place on earth
Who is it creates sand soliloquy
Is it everyone
Nay, you are a heathen
Erupting words of pretense
Oh Lord let my hand be guided
Sometimes I know it not
As the air, no air is still
And the weary sounds refrain
Now the hyena cackles
His clutch has found my heart bleeding
And now you are gone
Where you hear it all
Wide awake from a long sleep
Myself on my hands
Tomorrow in the gallows
Trees in skies
Empty alliterations replenished
By the hand of one who would fall down
And make a light to shine somewhere
What is this
The cavalcade of misery
What depths
How could we think of distances
Ah, it is the gift of man
To live, the days long
The nights longer
Journey to the stars
They worship the sun
Come down treasures
And I like to see a smile
On your lips as we meet
On a journey to the stars

indeed eventhough sometimes he can sound too whiney.
I think rappers are often very good. The environment of rap battles etc breeds competitiveness and a sort of caustic wit that is really hard to find, e.g. Eminem's "You couldn't get the crowd to throw up their hands if they'd swallowed their fingers"

Stephen Malkmus is pretty good
J.J Burnel and Hugh Cornwell
Pena, her litle head clinking like a barrel of red velvet balls
Full past noise
Treats filled her eyes turning them yellow like enamel-coated tacks
Soft like butter, hard not to pour
Out enjoying the sun while sitting on a turned-on waffle iron
Smoke billowing up from between her legs made me vomit beautifully
And crush a chandelier
Fall on my stomach and view her from a thousand happened facets
Liquid red salt ran over crystals
I later band-aided the area, sighed, oh well, it was worth it
Pena pleased but sore from sitting choose to stub her toe
And view the white pulps horribly large in their red pockets
"I'm tired of playing baby," she explained
And out of a blue felt box let escape one yellow butterfly the same size
Its droppings were tiny green phosphorous worms
That moved in tuck and rolls that clacked and whispered in their confinement
Three little burnt scotch taped windows several yards away
Mouths open to tongues that vibrated and lost saliva
Pena exclaimed, "that's the raspberries"
Second Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt, and Will Toledo
Alex G, Angel Olsen. Also beach house has some nice lyrics.
Open up your
Open up your
Open up your throat
And let all of that time
All of that time
All of that time
All of that time go
I know it sucks that Daddy's done
But try to think of what you want
You've got to open up your
Open up your
Open up your throat
Matt!
Support your brother
[Avey in background:] Sport brother
You've got his way and what he said
To help you shape the way you play
You've got to get rid of the more
Conservative habits of your mind
[Avey in background:] "You've got to have a real good time"
Woo!
Matt!
You're halfway to fully grown
You've got a real good shot
No help to hold inside
Give a real
Give a real shout out
Matt!
And a few years later, I set out on my own
Learned to take the reins up all by myself
Dug the spurs in clean down to the bone
But all that comes later
Now there's only you and me
And the replica where my body used to be
You can go ahead and hit him
He feels no pain at all
You erase meToo bad John's a fucking cuck now.

I don't know if it's /lit/ approved and probably isn't because /lit/ is a cesspool of pretentious cancer but I highly recommend Heather Alexander before transition to male. If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come through the music?
Would you hold it near as it were your own?
It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken,
Perhaps they're better left unsung.
I don't know, don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air.
Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.
Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.
There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.
Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.
You, who choose to lead, must follow
But if you fall you fall alone.
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home.

The whole place is dark
Every light on this side of the town
Suddenly it all went down
Now we'll all be brothers of
The fossil fire of the sun
Now we will all be sisters of
The fossil blood of the moon
Someone must have set 'em up
Now they'll be working in the cold, grey rock
Now they'll be working in the hot mill steam
Now they'll be working in the concrete
In the sirens and the silences now
All the great, set-up hearts
All at once, start to beat
After tonight, if you don't want this to be
A secret out of the past
I will resurrect it
I'll have a good go at it
I'll streak his blood across my beak
Dust my feathers with his ash
Feel his ghost breathing down my back
I will try
And know whatever I try
I will be gone, but not forever
The real truth about it is
No one gets it right
The real truth about it is
We're all supposed to try
There ain't no end to the sands I been trying to cross
The real truth about it is
My kind of life's no better off
If it's got the map, or if it's lost
We will try
And know whatever we try
We will be gone, but not forever
Come on, let's try
And know whatever we try
We will be gone, but not forever
The real truth about it is
There ain't no end to the desert I'll cross
I've really known it all along
Mama, here comes midnight with the dead moon in its jaws
Must be the big star about to fall
Long, dark blues
The will-o'-the-wisp
Long, dark blues
The big star is falling
Long, dark blues
Through the static and distance
Long, dark blues
A farewell transmission
Long, dark blues

There's a reason Dylan is too obvious. It's cause he's far and away the best lyricist of all time. Townes van Zandt might come close but his corpus is nowhere near the size of Dylan's. Essentially this is a 'Who's the best lyricist other than Dylan?' thread.

Also, JOHN DARNIELLE from the Mountain Goats
Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth
You pull on your finger, then another finger, then your cigarette
The wall-to-wall is calling, it lingers, then you forget
Oh oh, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide
You're too old to lose it, too young to choose it
And the clocks waits so patiently on your song
You walk past a cafe but you don't eat when you've lived too long
Oh, no, no, no, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide
Chev brakes are snarling as you stumble across the road
But the day breaks instead so you hurry home
Don't let the sun blast your shadow
Don't let the milk float ride your mind
You're so natural - religiously unkind
