This is why primary writing should be pen to paper, at least until you refine your ability to the point that you don't feel the need to neurotically edit or rewrite what you've already written.

The hardest part of writing anything is to get the basic draft done, everything after that point is refinement, but trusting yourself to create some kind of foundation on which to base that refinement takes a lot of time before it becomes automatic.

>spend hours writing something

>realize you were just pouring out all of your angst and frustration in shitty clunky prose that nobody cares about and nobody wants to read

>realize you will probably end up just being a failure anyways like everyone else and you were born in a low-class stupid family and you are a low-class stupid person who will never afford college

>look at closet that you stashed your loaded gun in.
>>
>>9483116
>show qt girl my short story
>she says she loves it and wants to hear more
>I immediately delete it because I think she's just being nice and is actually having a laff

>never finish

have 4 books online i poor my soul into
100 sales

make one erotica because i was sick of life and horny

sold more than everything ive ever written and will write

im now a porn writer
>>
>>9483116
Why the fuck would you do that? Store the shit you write, having something to look back at is more helpful than nothing, no matter how bad it is. Later it can serve as a stepping stone to get your thoughts further to something a tiny bit less shit.

>>9483124
>The hardest part of writing anything is to get the basic draft done
Meh. It took me 1 year for the first draft but 2 to finish the second revision. The refined part is when the real work starts. There is a lot less pressure at first draft, and you're less experienced, hence less critical. It's just that some people have this fixation to fix and rewrite instead of going further.
>>
>>9483172
Don't get me wrong, the bulk of all writing is revision, but putting out that first draft is fucking hard
>>
>>9483150
Maybe you tried TOO hard with them?
>>
>>9483178
it's possible, i'm an old school erotic role player so I know how to get perverted old men and soccer moms off
>>
>>9483150
>have 4 books online i poor my soul into
This is really funny.
>>
>>9483183
meh, don't care, i'm artistically happy with what I put out there, that's all that matters to me

it's just when your half asses porn gets 100x more love than everything else you've ever written you cant help but laugh
>>
>>9483191
You're a thick one. I hope you write about the importance of girth.
>>
>>9483193
you're very stand offish for no reason
>>
>launch into another sitting of writing whatever idea I've been developing
>not feeling inspired, but it's the time I set aside for it so I write
>dfw it feels like I'm just going through the motions writing "see Dick run" prose and I already know it's all tedious and boring
>>
>>9483195
I was pointing out an extremely funny typo you made, that you should have been able to find the irony of. Maybe we want to call it a Freudian slip. And after you missed the joke so many times it's hard to do anything but call you stupid.
>>
>>9483211
you sound like a fedora tipper desu

>write 1,300 words of short story first draft
>realize its a bunch of intentionally vague pretention predicated on meaningless trite observations
>begin to realize the reason I can't ever stay motivated to write anything is because I can't handle giving voice to my own internal thoughts
>now suffering existential writers block based on my deep-seated self hatred and doubt

Get a fucking sense of humor.
>>
>>9483227
just create focal points in your writing, if you plan it out you can write the big events or turning points in your book you previously planned and then you can connect the rest quite naturally
>>
>>9483227
for example, say there's a scene in your story in which you can create 1000 words around, say a train crashes

well... is a main character going to be the one experiencing it? who is this crash effecting and with that you can create the perspective in which you write it, now you can apply that to anything

ok and you can create characters in which you were previously stuck due to your mental blocks that you can carve into your story due to this character defining moment

so now you have material at the middle that can feed the start

does this make sense?
>>
>>9483227
the main issue with people getting stuck and sperging on their own content is that they haven't planned out anything and they're just freeballing free thought, you have to have an objective in mind, an end goal and in between the end goal.

you want to ask what does the ending portray, what emotions what events, what landscape changes

and with that you can navigate your writing from a somewhat... base
>>
>>9483227
>>9483249
ok and the beautiful part about writing an ending is that you are obligated by the story to write in characters to satisfy the ending... this might take a while but you don't need to, but i highly recommened you plan on focal points in your stories that can feed your story

because these joints are what keep everything attached, in many ways they are your book

so plan in out like I have stated..
>>
>>9483233
You are complaining about not selling anything and you make that mistake. It's incredibly funny.
>>
>>9483216
Well that's not the only mistake you've made in this thread. It's better to just laugh at yourself next time.

>>9483254
while each of these posts missed the point of my greater issues with self expression, I can't say any of your advice is actually wrong. Having a proper frame of narrative is pretty critical to writing something self-sustaining and closing it all out correctly
>>
>>9483265
you're unable to express yourself due to not having the proper framework in the first place

if you have the perimeter you can express yourself, free thought is not a proper place to build a story from scratch

you must prepare to express
>>
>>9483265
the reason why you have so much trite is because you are pulling from the entire universe, you want to pull from a specific scene you have created the foundations from and add from there
>>
>>9483269
>>9483272
you're continuing to misinterpret my issue, which I blame entirely on my poor communication. Still, thanks for the good advice on future works
>>
>>9483233
I found it amusing in context. Since when is this board filled with pseuds who can't just laugh at something simple for a moment
>>
>>9483259
>you
Cut that out.
>>9483301
Uh, did you not see the pun in the post you replied to? That's funny. There's a difference between a simple joke and a nothing.
>>
>>9483249
>you want to ask what does the ending portray, what emotions what events, what landscape changes
hmm, I don't think so
>>
>>9483523
I did, but I wanted a nice (you) before I went to sleep. The difference is that yours was forced and the original was unintentional.
>>
>spend hours writing the beginning to a story
