Ever read a Stephen King novel? Pretty much that. Great plot ideas and not great execution. Rather janky characters as well. TBF, I haven't read Cat's Cradle yet, but I have read a couple of his other works.

I'd agree generally that his plot's are stronger than his characters, but he has a few works, Slaughterhouse Five and Mother Night come to mind, where the execution is great.

Read it a dozen years ago. It's okay. Weaker than Mother Night. Don't judge Vonnegut by one book. His oeuvre is comfy desu.
