Bildungsroman to guide youth.
The mark of Cain is one of the things that I really like about this book, it reminds me of Baudelaire's poem Abel and Cain.
If you like it then you should read Steppenwolf.

Does Narcissus and Goldmund keep the Bildüngsroman structure? I came to notice that most Hermann Hesse books tend to look alike so I started to think of him as a one-trick pony. I've heard that Beneath the Wheel is different though, but I haven't read it yet so I can't say it for sure.

it was more of the same to be honest - enjoyable and comfy bildungsroman, slightly less flowery than siddharta yet still pretty flowery
