Why is this classic so rarely memed here?

It's being memed ferociously lately; by you, for example.

There was a good thread about it a couple days ago. It's less well known in the US but I see it quite frequently here in Europe.

The trick I've found is to read it in short blasts -- which works because the chapters are short. Probably deserves a fresh translation. I have the Knopf version and would like to see something by Everyman's fantastic Magic Mountain translation by Woods.

i don't know. actually it was on my list form quite some time. then someone started memeing it and i directly took it out of my fathers library and started. am halfway through now. didn't regret one sentence. absolutely timeless, huge psychological insight. politically versatile, concerned with ethics and epistemology etc

I reckon most look at the length, read Young Törless instead then cross Musil off the list.

I read it about a year ago but i think i read the wrong translation as it was pretty unimpressive in places. That being said I did enjoy it a lot and think that in a few years once my germans improved enough to read original and I've read enough books to understand it better it will probably grow into being one of my favs.
This classic is memed rarely because it is a book you appreciate more with age would be my guess OP.
