Itt, a great example of satire of the British Empire. Even if it was written in 1969.
It's the first of the series I've read and already I can tell the others are going to be equally terrifying examples of Flashman leaving a swathe of ridiculously caddish behaviour across the planet.
Anyone able to tell me how much I'm in for?

the best one is the one in germany with the dueling otto bismarck. i think that's the second one? royal flash. don't go through them all at once man. read like one or two a year, and they'll keep their hilarity. love those shits. also check out the colonel blimp movie.
I just know them as the precursors to Blackadder/Ciaphas Cain, both of which I enjoy immensely. I really should read them some time.

great stuff.
for similar non-fiction, check out Peter Hopkirk's Great Game series, albeit sans shenanigans.

I was lucky enough to pick up the paperback in a charity shop, and was already aware of most of the content. But it shocked me just how hard Fraser went into the idea of Flash being such a horrible person. Hard to imagine the Flashman from Blackadder was ever based off him...

And, to a pretty large extent, Blackadder himself.
