>Set in modern-day New York, a gentrifying retropolis where hirsute young men dress as “hobos and mountain men and Pony Express riders”, it tracks the relationship between two white arts college graduates.

o wow. Just the other day I was in a bookshop and I remembered Gods Without Men and wondered if the author had written anything else. The only problem was I forgot his name.
I can't speak to what you're writing about, but Gods Without Men is genuinely good and not political in any inflammatory way.
I wouldn't discount this book out of hand.
