Yes. If it was your first Murakami book - it will prob still be your favourite even when you read more of his books.
That's because all his books are the same.
Do you guys think there's any deeper or hidden meaning in his books? They have this air of bearing an important message but never seem to deliver in the end.
Are you just supposed to enjoy the mysterious atmosphere and leave it at that?

Yeah, got the same feeling when read Sputnik Sweetheart. I still don't know what was that book about (i just picked it because it was supposed to be about lesbians, I was expecting some hentai).
Murakami was a promising writer but he got so caught up in his obsessions (cats, emotionally empty characters, people disappearing, pop music, house chores, characters making an above average income, the consumption of luxury goods etc) that each book is basically the same set of items arranged in a slightly different way.
Yesterday was my first encounter with Haruki Murakami. We were discussing an excerpt from his book on an english class at my uni, or a whole separate short story (I don't know) called 'Clothes'. I fail to understand what women sees in his prose. Can someone redpill me on this japanese Coelho?

You forgot mediocre Italian food and incongruous music.
