I do this automatically and also with knowledge

Sometimes people say the wrong stuff but I don't correct them

In the proper context, I will elevate my vocabulary. Not so much as to sound like I'm abusing a thesaurus, but so that I can be better understood.

What's that saying, intelligence is like a pocket watch, only reveal it when asked the time?

Yes, naturally. You don't really expand your vocab without trying to use the words

I just avoid using awkward words, or using words in an imprecise way.

Examlpe: pliant can sort of mean flexible, but you would never say "my schedule this week is very pliant." It's just strange.

no one who's socially fluent has trouble with this- they decide what words to use depending on who they're talking to on the fly. If something comes out as too esoteric, they make a mental note to adapt their use of that word.

nobody consciously incorporates new words, it just happens, this is what happened when you were a child, the context provides the proper memories to fish from while your mind is constructing a sentence and that "new" word simply appears as a proper fit for your intentions

i just make words up as i write them, and then use them in daily conversation. people dont pay attention to what i say anyway.

Social autism. I only use uncommon words when talking if i'm talking to people that I know will understand said word. And even then I only use uncommon words to be very precise in my meaning. If there's a more concise and simple way to say something, then of course i'll go for that.
