I think the consensus is that Lattimore and Fagles are more 'correct', but that Fitzgerald is nicer to read, whilst still being close enough to the original text that you're not losing much. Pope is like an adaptation.

But then again, it's not like I've read all of them; that's just what I've heard. I like Fitz.

It's probably worth reading a few of the different translations and seeing which one you like best.

You can usually find cheap copies of them around used bookstores.

Pope for a proto-Romantic adaptation
Butler for a nice prose translation/adaptation
Lattimore and Fagles for academic purposes
Fitzgerald for a balanced, yet still accurate read
