Should obscenities (violence, sex) be embraced and described or only subtly implied? What style is better?

both, depending on the work. i prefer allusions to sexuality buried in text for those who wish to find it, but overt obscenity has its place. i'm still trying to weave an appreciation for pynchon into my psyche.
You're a fucking nigger. The historical problem of obscenity in "literature" (theatre plays) existed mostly thanks to style regulations by the noble class or church. Conservatives being anti-human trash, as usual.

>violence and sex are obscene
Into the trash it goes.
I'd say whatever is most effective in conveying the feelings and impressions you want to convey in the readers mind, obviously.

>What style is better?
Depends entirely on the purpose.
The difference between explicit and implicit is also kind of vague. Just look at how Lolita was received back in the day.

depends on how, who and/or for what you are writing about desu
