Holy Hell this was one of the most unexpectedly touching and well-written novels I've ever read. Is anything else in Fantasy this good or has White ruined a genre for me?
>>
Bumping for interest, the once and future king is my favorite
>>

he ruined it bro, you mostly will find shitty tolkien ripoff
>>

I haven't read much fantasy but Steven Erikson is fantastic.
>>
this book was my entire childhood, fucking loved it

I'd recommend reading some arthur stuff now
>>
I've got it on my fucking desk right now and I want the motivation to read it please help me

It's so long and I don't want to force myself to read shit this week, do I have to force myself or does it immediately get rad?

It's a totally different approach/ type of books, but the Arthur trilogy by Bernard Cornwell is pretty good
>>
>>9400190
It's not a hard read.

The first book "the sword in the stone" is by far the easiest to read and moves at a good pace. when you add all the books together it seems big but you'll find yourself through TSITS pretty quick.
>>
for some reason my english teacher senior year had us read only the part in the book about lancelot cucking author
>>

That entire backwards-in-time Merlin thing annoyed me so much that I dropped it.

the solution to this, obviously, is reading stuff by pre-tolkien authors (e.g. james branch cabell, c.l. moore, e.r. eddison) or his contemporaries who haven't been influenced by him (e.g. fritz leiber, jack vance).

really? I thought that was pretty creative
>>
Reread it this past summer because I really enjoyed it as a kid-- still an enormously pleasant. Another fantasy series I enjoyed as a kid was Farmer's Riverworld series. Anyone read that lately? Does it hold up? I remember loving it at about 13.
>>
Lord Dunsany. The King Of Elfland's Daughter is great but short.
>>
Figure this thread is probably more likely to get answers to this question than anywhere else. How is the Norton Critical version of Le Morte d'Arthur? How difficult is reading the middle english in it?

The first chapter is a bit off putting but it picks up quickly after that. The book is levity incarnate, whimsical and wondrous and beautiful.

His "Goshawk" is infinitely better
>>

Nothing is that good. That book is fucking amazing. King pellinore had me in stitches. When grummore and the nig are dressing up as the beast and practicing baying lmao. Or when the orkney kids fucing kill the unicorn holy shit.
