If a new book confuses you when you start reading it, is it a bad book or are you just a pleb?

What a shit and empty question
I can't believe I have to say this, but...
Depends on the book.

no, it's natural to feel an aversion towards confusion. what you do is keep reading, negotiate its meaning and decide whether it's a failure of authorial intent/communication or a comprehension handicap on your part. so yeah, just be honest with yourself.

Books are meant to be reread: technically your current understanding of what you're reading is virtually worthless. You have not internalized any of the concepts of the book itself, nor you're still sure if you've understood them: you haven't even finished it.
