>One must be absolutely modern.
What did he mean by this?
I can't tell because you posted a weird short sentence out of context.
>>9391550
Take it at face value.
>>9391495
>old is bad
>new is good
Same shit every generation
>>9391608
>>old is bad
>>new is good
anon shows he understands the sentence by reducing it to something absurdly simple
>Same shit every generation
then anon shows he stands above said mentality by dismissing it as a predictable and mundane trend. 'same shit' clearly signals the kind of cool cynicism one could imagine bruce willis in die hard saying. anon stands triumphant over the 5 word sentence he successfully dissected and dismissed.
lit is a smart board you guys

It is a simple and mundane trend and I expressed it in way less words than you just did my angry elitist friend.
It has the same meaning as "the past is a foreign country".
But then I read the context and it seems to have some silly prescriptive meaning.
Don't be a traditionalist. That is the meaning.
You guys got it all wrong. It means that since the world already went nuts you have no other choice that going nuts too, even if you don't like it. Rimbaud said his whole endgame and attitude wasnt really his fault
(just a guess) one should always be aware of current ideas. without a knowledge of what's current, whether it be in fashion or philosophy or values, one is essentially living in the past, not living at all and cannot do anything of worth.
Everybody in this thread is an idiot. Rimbaud was one of the first modernists, his intent was to look at the changes that occurred due to the industrial revolution.
>>9391638
He is right though.
>>9392010
Bah. His intent was to be the greatest poet ever while it lasted, i.e. his intent.
>>9391495
Be fresh even as a classicist. Poetry by then was very regulated until Apollinaire. Intent lasts forever through works of art. We're going through another industrial revolution. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. - Dickens
rimbaud would look good in a dress and some make up is all i'm trying to say
