Why is life so sad /lit/?

A Little Cloud was the one that got me

I thought it was more ironic than sad. The characterization of the main character is fucking phenomenal though, he is somewhat sympathetic but we still get a sense of how static he is, and his "intellectual" stasis causing the woman's death. It's really something I know a lot of people have seen but few have been able to express.

How did you fond it ironic? I just found it desperately sad. Do you mean the main character is meant to be a figure of ridicule ?

I've never heard of this, but I really enjoy shatteringly sad things. What is it about?

A reclusive, lonely man

It's a short story by Joyce. Get out of this thread, and just read it. It's short and sweet, and actually fires those neurons.

Araby was the one that first got me and I stayed got until The Dead (with a short intermission for the duration of Committee Room).
