What is the best Western ever written?
I would like to say blood meridian but I haven't actually read any other books of the setting
why do you like warlock, is it worth reading?

I've never read it, I posted it because it was briefly /lit/core and I thought it would be less controversial than putting BM in the OP

Blood meridian confirmed peerless

I really liked The Tall Stranger by Louis L'amour
But I tend to really enjoy pulp westerns,

warlock is pretty cool. it's definitely a psychological western. the film was okay...DON'T WATCH IT UNTIL YOU'VE READ THE BOOK...or it's shit.
typical western story. town is harassed by bandits. they hire a gunman...but his friend is a dick. one of the bandits wants to go good. the story overall is okay...but the writing is really nice.
another favorite western is lonesome dove by larry mcmurtry. it's like if dumas wrote an American western. it's a big adventure, epic in scope with everything you'd want in a fun romp. the tv miniseries is excellent...but ignore the sequels.
blood meridian is really cool for character-driven narrative. I would say lonesome dove is more story driven, and warlock is somewhere in between the two.
the border trilogy is another fine western-ish set of books from McCarthy if you haven't read it already.

is it peerless? have you read most of the classic westerns?
The western trilogy: warlock, blood meridian, and butchers crossing.
