Whats your favorites long ass mother-fucking book?
The History of the World. I'm trudging through it now, and learning quite a bit on what shaped the modern world by looking into the past. It's about 1125 pages of facts. Hard to remember, so I have to reread a lot.

J.M. Roberts?

Yes! The History of the World by JM Roberts. If you've read it, let me know if it's a good book. I'm up to Byzantium, and so far have found it enlightening; next, more specific books on periods; this one is a survey to acquaint myself with the whole shabang of history.

I've had a copy sitting on my shelf for months but haven't gotten around to it yet. Heard good things about it though; apparently one of the better single-volume world history books.
Port-Royal, St. Beuve.
Duc de St. Simon's Memoirs.
Gibbon's Decline and Fall..

It's decent, if difficult to remember. It generally talks about religions, politics, trade, and war. Some art. The prehistoric period is exciting to read about, and it has given me a general sense of the themes of history; however, it requires individual books on specific periods of history to really get in deep. The book is a general history, so more in depth research is needed to really grasp the periods. It's been a great starter book for history studies.
