What are some of the essential works for one eager to delve into this school of thought? I've found myself recently reading Age of Enlightenment thinkers and I've had a significantly fruitful experience understanding their philosophy in terms of atheistic individualism and pursuit of liberty
Although I still find myself leaning to the left, as a former libertarian socialist I can't help but see the worrying similarities of neoliberalist global policies of free trade which have essentially produced the third world
Plus my disdain for communism only really goes so far and I really do not see it as such a dangerous ideology as say 'fascism'
Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations
then read Mises and Rothbard

I mean like I obviously detest Stalinism, and any form of authoritarian communism
But for instance a good friend of mine is an anarcho-communist and I do find a lot of positions as understandable if not quite utopian

The issue I take with anarcho communism is how these people aim to firstly establish, and secondly maintain the anarchistic aspect.
You really need to either ingrain the hatred for heirarchy in peoples values or at some point someone will eventually re-assert heirarchy, and once that happens the market returns, the anarcho folk can't compete and it all goes to shit.

They are though. You cant have a communist society without total participation. You cant have total participation without a means to deal with those who prefer the value of things like power and wealth to prosperity. Thus you have to break eggs.

This is assuming a situation with no foreign powers that will take advantage.

Well, something of that sort is if you're coming from a violent revolution. The gains of the revolution must be protected, and this can only be done through violent authoritarianism to suppress anti revolutionary organisation.

Well yes I agree their proposed course of action for establishing dominion over the public and eliminating the Republic is bothersome
But if they are to peacefully advocate a communist utopia where people are equal I don't see as much to hate
Palpably Marx appeared not all that draconian in his advocating for communism's rule
