Has anyone read a thousand books?
>>
>>9361652

In a lifetime? Probably.
>>
>>9361652
No, it takes me like a month to finish a book
>>
what's a site like letterboxd but for books?

If you include childhood then yes.

A thousand books is literally nothing. I'm a huge casual who only reads like one book a week and I'm pretty sure I'm already at least halfway there.

52 weeks in a year, bro. How old are you?
>>
>>9361930
That's like ten years of reading. If you started at fifteen you would have passed five hundred by your twentyfifth birthday.

I know.
I doubt.

If you count how many books you have read then you're reading out of vanity. Prove me wrong.

Protip: you can't.

Are you saying that everyone on Goodreads is reading out of vanity?

How do you find the time to read a book a week while balancing work/study and shitposting
>>
>>9362951
Did you pass high school?
>>
>>9361652
No, but I've read well over 1000 stories. According to letterboxd I've also seen more than 1000 movies, but I don't know the exact amount because I deleted my account awhile back.
>>
Surely the main question is quality over quantity and what you count as a minimum for 'book'.

You could read every book in the Mr. Men, Peter Rabbit and Thomas the Tank Engine series to get to over 80 in an afternoon.

Or you can batter your way through something huge and dry over a three week period and it counts as one.

I literally cannot finish the Communist Manifesto (freebie from wife) every time I try I find the most minor distractions interesting, like a fly on the window. But if someone said I could earn a fiver I could do it in 30 minutes.

Oh and when I went to a Ruth Rendall lecture before she died, (freebie from wife, she works in publishing and gets free shit on the regular) she said "Life is too short to waste on bad literature", basically, if it's a shitty book and not giving you pleasure, give it up.

not him, but it's not hard.I simply read a few hours in bed every night. Study time ends fairly early in life, At 40 (which I am) you work 40-50 hours a week. The rest of your time is spent on personal pursuits, raising a family, and sleeping. If you enjoy reading you will find plenty of time to do it. Most of the commitments you have to family occur in the hours immediately following work. You'll do any home repairs/adulting while the sun still shines. You will do the family dinner, the sporting events, and tuck the kids in bed or send them off to do homework as they age between 8 and 9pm. The rest of your time is yours. I tend to spend it reading. I will read for the 3-4 hours prior to passing out around midnight. I also read whenever I'm in a lunch break, or if I'm sitting around somewhere waiting for anything. I keep my shitposting to a minimum. I do it on slow days in the office, and that's probably about once a week.

If something is important to you, you will find the time to do it.

Eight hours of work, one hour of commuting (both ways), one hour of walking the dog, one hour of body maintenance (eating, showering, brushing teeth, shaving, toilet), six hours of sleep, and that leaves me with seven hours a day to spend on hobbies and friends.

There's five weekdays with thirty five hours of leisure time and weekend when I don't need to work and commute so that's thirty two hours of leisure time over the weekend. Overall, sixty seven hours of leisure time in a week.

Let's say I'm retarded and it takes me two whole minutes to read a single page. That's thirty pages an hour. So if the average book has some three hundred pages, it would take me ten hours to read it. That's like one seventh of my free time. That's pretty easily achievable.

I pay a lot of attention to how much I've read, which is currently at 100 books in the past 4 years, and I am now 25 years old. my normie friends all think I read an insane amount, and I'm fairly certain that I read more than anyone I know irl, even if that number's very low by /lit/ standards

however, I'm also single and get long periods off work (teacher) so I have more free time now than I ever will. if I get a qt wife, I doubt I'll ever break 1k. I don't think it's realistic if you have a real job, a house to take care of, and a family
>>
>>9368243
it comes down to a quality of book too though. I mean, a lot of us read quite a bit of pulp. Between every deep work, I'll read some trash to cleanse the palate a bit. Like one week, i'm reading Melville. Then I'll read an Executioner serial in a night before moving onto something deeper.
>>
>>9361689
Read when you take a shit and you'll cut that time in half anon

>>
>>9361652
Is it weird that I instantly noticed it's a trap?

am I God?
>>
>>9368256
I refuse to read pulp. I'd rather read one good book a month than read ten shitty ones. Speak for yourself autist.
>>
>>9368540
Man's face. Giant distance between fake looking tits. Wack ass wig. Something is up for sure.
>>
>>9361652
no
but i've walked these lonely streets
>>
>>9361689
Same. Because I work too much or I drink too much.

Though I do like to read when I'm buzzed, mostly because I tend to be more empathetic than usual and think more critically (somehow), but most times I drink too fast and so skip over the stage of buzzed and go right into drunkenness.

>>9361652
What drives a man to do this to themselves? Why get fucking surgery to implant pieces of plastic in your fucking chest? Why put on wigs and makeup and shove dildos up your ass? For pleasure? You can do that much cheaper and without you family disowning you, or completely fucking up your body. To serve some kind of delusion? What is it and why has it become so popular?
>>
>>9370200
It's spirituality attempting to become physical. The trans person is only slightly more demented than the American who gets the flag tattooed across his chest.
>>
>>9370200
I can relate to the idea in theory, I fawn over the aeshtetic form of women and often fantasize about being an object of beauty and desire, something which the male body isn't necessarily built for. However, I leave it at that, a fantasy. And then I realize that there is a lot of fun to being a man. You might not be the cake, but you're the person who gets to eat the cake, and the cake wants to be eaten by you.

People who go through all that shit just for some kind of sexual kick are really troubled people. I doubt they feel very good about themselves after the fact. It's no use to try to make them feel bad, I should think they already do.

I only find them weird and disgusting if they're ugly and refuse to even try, personally. Transgenders like Kalindra are okay with me because they actually try to a human being.

I'll admit it is odd, though, that one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen was not even born one.
>>
>>9370657
Yeah, but think about doing that to yourself. It's just grotesque. That girl (male) was like you once.
>>
>>9370374
>>9370632
That's not a trap, traps are just feminine guys that could be mistaken for women. If they get tits, they go from traps to transsexuals. It's a small but important distinction.
>>
>>9370745

>>

>That girl (male) was like you once.

Eh, I don't think so. I think there has to be something biologically skewed about you to be transgeneder. Plus, I don't doubt they were already born very feminine looking to begin with.

I doubt I've passed full 20 books and I'm 20 too. Honest to God right now. I never learnt read systematically but in the recent times I've realized it's the only way to more abstract knowledge along with making notes and reviews. Thing is that I can't memorize anything well if I don't write it first.

It's the single most regretful thing I've have had in my life. Not reading and writing more. There's time still to fix the errors but the delay is too great to do even something average as in quality anymore.

>>9365146
This thoroughly unrelated. You can pass highschool easily and with good grades with just listening to the teachers. At least here in Nordic countries this can be done easily and I bet it's even easier in North-America. Just going to Uni too and the reading for the exam material isn't even challenging.

In highschool everytime I had to do a literary review I just watched the movie related to it and subtracted some little pieces from here and there and made and B or A- essay out of it. System couldn't be more flawed in that sense. Only thing was that in my mother tongue too I had monads of grammatical errors because I wasn't aware of the many rules that exist in the formal way of expression.
>>
>>9361937
lol
its more like 20 years, so you'd have to be like 35 years old, and that is given that you've been able to keep up that consistency which i doubt anyone could.
