That's part of what made it so funny to me. His pessimism is so repetitive and over-the-top that it becomes farcical.

Yeah, that's kind of what I got out of The Trouble with Being Born, which is the only work I've read from him. I actually haven't even read it in full or in order. When I'm feeling depressed or frustrated or whatever I just take it off the shelf and flip to a random spot and start reading.
