I want to get into this after watching the Lynch movie, the two syfy miniseries and the Jodorowsky documentary but my friends tell me it gets worse as it goes along. And it isn't gradual, it's a sharp drop off a cliff. So in /lit/'s opinion at which book does it get bad?

God damnit why dont youbjust read it and the drop it when you're not interested anymore instead of asking lit to give you an opinion
People say it sucks after the first one, I never thought the first one was that great.
Personally I think the sci fi series was the best rendition of the story done so far.

have your friends actually read it, or are they redditors?

How did you enjoy the movie without knowing the book? It must've been terribly confusing.
Option three in that infographic is by far the superior way to "into" this series.
Dune is really good, Messiah is a good epilogue, Children is mediocre but tolerable, God Emperor of Dune is probably better than the original book. Then it falls off a cliff and into the ninth circle of Hell where Frank Herbert is being chewed on by Satan.
