What is THE translation for The Divine Comedy? I have Mandelbaum and Ciardi, of which I prefer the former over the latter. I'm interested in the Hollander translation, but I prefer having all 3 parts in 1 volume

That one lady that was friends with Chesterton and Tolkien. It rhymes and everything. Amazing feat.

yeah that one lady! she also has a decent translation of that one book I hear

Read the most artistic one (which I believe is the Ciardi one)
A lot is lost in translation and it becomes cumbersome if the translation is too direct

Dorothy Sayers? If so I'd recommend it. I can only compare it to Singleton. I like it. Basically what the guide days is true. It's nice to read the poem in poetic form, but it's not as Dante meant it to be read obviously. Footnotes are helpful but sometimes lacking.
