How do I start writing short stories? I can never tell how long do they need to be, so I fuck up the pace of the story. Do you have any required short story authors, or readings that help at writing short stories, specifically?
u just have to feel it

There's no length they 'need' to be, just focus on a single idea and try to get it across. Short stories are more ideas than stories

>Short stories are more ideas than stories
This is why I love them

I have written a few of them, but none of them have an ending, I'm just stuck, and the beginning is already four pages long.
>I can never tell how long do they need to be
They have to be as long as they have to be. (Unless you're writing for a competition with a limited number of words.) I've read half-page and 20 page short stories. The length arises organically from the text.

fucking this so much
Hate having people read short stories and going off on shit so unrelated to the main point that it was trying to convey

Read others' short stories-- Kafka, Twain, Melville, Salinger, etc.-- and learn from them. Then, once you get the gist of them, practice by writing incessantly. It's literally the only way.

maybe try using an outline? figure out where you want to end it, work backwards from there, and then rewrite the ending if you don't like it. just to give it somewhere to move I suppose?
read Borges and realize you will never be great.
