When I re-size the window of the chat program I use to communicate with the girl I love, the messages move. They're either at opposite sides of the window, or on top of each other, depending on how large the window is. When I'm in a bad mood and she is too, I re-size it so they're as far apart as possible, when I feel good about her and she feels good about me I re-size so that our messages appear on top of each other, intimately close. This seems like somewhat of a metaphor to me, it also seems incredibly ridiculous and idiotic.

You're just the next generation.
Same way you'd stand closer when you're getting on or move to opposite sides of the room in an argument.
Err to move the aspect of physical relationship onto the virtual interface you communicate though...healthy? Perhaps..such behaviours could develop into a form of OCD though.
