In short Freudian Regression therapy which extends to prenatal life and a dualist theory of mind -Analytical and Reactive.

The analytical mind, is a perfect mind which has total recall and pure unemotional rationality. The reactive mind is the emontional and irrational and prevents us from making full use of this perfect rationality. One of the worst things this mind does is dredge up painful memories or "engrams" that prevent cloud your judgement.

These engrams aside from clouding your analytical mind are also cause many of the illness and aliments people suffer as most conditions are psychosomatic (everything from arthritis to poor eyesight)

After establishing this the book then goes on to how through dianetics therapy (regression thereapy) one can get rid of these engrams and **clear** the mind allowing full and pure use of the analytical mind and an end to psychosomatic illness.
