Was this the next step in literature?

I have this book and only read the first few pages before becoming bored and exasperated with noveliists. Anyone care to convince me to pick it up again?

I read the first five pages of this book and all I got was the sense that the author was trying to tell the reader that there was a lot of anxiety in the house by using the word "anxiety" over and over and over again.
