Does reading the works of the dead stifle the progression of literature?
Is literature going somewhere? Bloom has his Kabbalah thing that I have read nothing about, but I'm guessing he's of the opinion that specific writers fulfill a necessary spiritual thing.
Is writing, or any artistic endeavour really, about the artist's personal enlightenment, making fame utterly irrelevant?
Are humans supposed to invent AI and then die?
forget all about your stupid questions and write about those beautiful chickens. much more aesthetic.

No. But not doing so creates self-mocking, aspiration-less drudge. See the "alt" lit movement for example.

No
Also, "progression" of art is a meme.
>Is writing, or any artistic endeavour really, about the artist's personal enlightenment, making fame utterly irrelevant?
Well, the fame is generally supposed to irrelevant. But art doesn't have to be about enlightenment, it is about what the artist wants it to be.
>Are humans supposed to invent AI and then die?
No, I really don't see how you could support this claim. It's techno-religious babble, as far as I see.
