Some qt told me once that I'd enjoy Rushdie's work, especially what she called "Magic Realism". I couldn't be bothered reading him right then and there, so I decided to ask /lit/ their thoughts on this writer... Tell me, /lit/izens, do you like Rushdie?

I'm not really into magic realism myself, but I think Murakami does it better.
Its pretty genre fiction tier

I do. Midnight's Children is by common agreement his best, and I enjoyed Shalimar the Clown. Haven't got around to the Satanic Verses yet.
I think Gunther Grass does a similar kind of magic realism better, though. The Tin Drum is magnificent.
Also there's those wacky South Americans, obviously.
I like him. Midnight's Children, Satanic Verses, and The Moor's Last Sigh are excellent. Not too enthused about his latest stuff though.

There's a story about Salman Rushdie hiding out at Pynchon's house during the whole fatwah controversy.

Rushdie is probably the best English language magical realist author, although that's not saying much.
Read some Borges instead.
