Other Voices, Other Rooms is an excellent minor classic; Handcarved Coffins simply one of the best shorter instances of American Gothic; In Cold Blood, riveting; the Grass Harp a great and thoughtful older children's book. The problem with Capote is the old one: he had enormous talent but became too interested in the very things that killed it. He was capable of much more, but did little. What he did do testifies to this.
Breakfast at Tiffany's was bizarre and boring and racist/sexist, but as a fellow gay I wanna try his other stuff
