Just read the first page, did I like it?
>>
>>9287056
You thought it was okay, nothing impressive. You've seen better copyright pages.
>>
Done reading for the day, OP?
>>
>>9287064
Yeah probably desu
>>
$1 for goofs, gags, and more?

a bargain
>>
I'm already in page 71
Is it too late to drop it? I'm just feel like I'm not getting the most of it
>>9287053
Did you really get it by $1?
>>
>>9287056
who is this richard faina fellow? perhaps his secret gay lover?
>>
>>9287188
It's possible. Not OP but the highest price for my book is $8. All used.
>>
>>9287188
Have you read any other Pynchon? It's not too late to take a break and do the Crying of Lot 49. Then you can get right back.
>>
>>9287214
>price for my book
hi thomas, do you want to play counter strike 1.6?

OP here, it gets a lot easier around page 200. Re-reading the first bit of the first section after finishing the book probably helps.

And yes, I really did get it for $1. All paperbacks are $1 at my local used bookstore because it's not run for profit- all proceeds go to a free library.

btw guys the point of this thread was for me to brag because, and nobody has yet pointed out, this is a first edition paperback that I swooooped
>>
I just chuckled to myself when I thought of the wacky, blunderous journey bursting with all kinds of wacky hi-jinks that OP is about to partake in
Just dont read too many pages in one sitting or youll go into maximum wack-drive and take a cannonball leap into the nearest toilet or enter the tour de france on a tricycle - or something equally lunatical!

I don't find it ""hard"" (of course it is hard but not impossible to read), I just feel like most of what he is actually talking about flies (like a rocket lol) over my head. Maybe my IQ just isn't high enough ;(
>>

After Slothrop gets to Casino Herr Goering the work becomes clear and intimate rather than providing the reader with the sensuous analogue of walking through a sandstorm stark naked.
>>

>providing the reader with the sensuous analogue of walking through a sandstorm stark naked.

why did he do it that way, is he trying to be an asshole? or is it because "lel it makes sense you finish it kiddo"... I think I already figured out what the "big twist" is all about... when he talked about some girls private parts being "pixelated"... I don't want to spoil it to anyone and I'm not even sure if I'm right... but do you understand what I'm trying to say?
Also, who the fuck is the kenosha kid?

I recently finished GR, the first work of Pynchon's I read. Probably a bit of a mistake, but I don't feel as though I missed too too much. My real hang-ups are probably predictable.

What exactly was the purpose of the Schwarzgerät? Why did Pirate defect, and then did he REALLY defect? did the zone Hereros nuke the US? What was up with that chapter?
>>
>>9287410
glaze over it and not understand the full significance
>>
Well you might well have a first editiion, so yes
>>
>>9288606

Read this and check if you have a first edition, you could make a lot of money

>>
>>9288615
If OP got the first edition for $1 he is a fucking hack
>>
>>9288603
I asked my engi friends what the fuck did he mean by that and they told me it was a super hard math thing and I asked them to solve and they were like "Nah"
Do STEMfags not love their profession?
>>
its not a 1st ed, its a paperbak

If it's missing some pages.
>>
I've read the first 50 pages couple of times. This book does absolutely nothing to me.
>>
>>9288695
STEMfag here. It's most likely just a made-up equation, although a real rocket one could look somewhat similar to that.
However, you can't just "solve" an equation with several variables, you can only find one missing variable given that you know all the others. Even then, since in this case the equation contains several derivatives (represented by the d's and ∂'s), it could still not have an analytical solution.

I think that's the point of the equation anon, that recognition
>>
>>9289102
Read the next 50 you clown
>>
>>9289528
So, only Pynchon knows the answer?
>>
>>9289528
Its probably an equation for his motorised bar stool or something
>>
>>9291185

Speaking of stool, what was up with the scat part?
I just finished the second chapter, does it get explained later?
>>
>>9288603
You described my experience with the whole book.
>>9291791
I was that kid ;^)
>>
>>9289102
The first 50 pages already contain some of the most beautiful passages ever written. You're just making yourself look stupid mate.
>>
>>9291899
Yeah, like the banana's dna part. But maybe is just not his cup of tea, dont call him stupid...
