Hey /lit/, what do you think of my bookshelf?
>>9283844
Intensely entry level and at the same time extremely try hard and also half unread. Might I suggest killing yourself?

is this a meme i have been missing out on?
>>9283844
Do you really jump straight to Ulysses and GR? Huge mistake.
Try reading for fun and pursuing further books by authors you genuinely enjoy instead of just getting books off lists.
Worn spines on all except on Joyce and Pynchon. Typical.
How about mine?

What the fuck did you do to 2666 to have the spine crack that much? My copy is still near perfect after reading it twice. How do you hold your books?????

anyone who does this is a degenerate kindle reading pleb
like seriously, one of biggest advantages of having a physical book is how nice the outside looks and how that reminds you of the great experience you had reading it.
the amount of autistic rages I've gone into over people doing this to my lent-out books.

There's also a great product called "Goo-Gone." It's intended for heavy duty adhesives but doesn't damage books. I highly recommend it.

Oh look, another child autist who thinks you have to destroy your books when you read them. It's endearing, actually.
>>9286450
It was a gift from an anonymous goodreads friend. Still in disbelief honestly. Never thought it would come.
The site only knows what you need motivation, and it's getting worse and worse and then the other prisoners kill the enlightened prisoner for being a quiet, skinny, nerd unless I'm around close friends or should I even keep trying?

I haven't read it yet, just picked it up from a second hand bookstore the other day. Looking forward to it though.

Probably going to start it after I finish Ulysses. I might read A Smuggler's Bible first. Have you read that one?
>>9287885
I was actually gonna read that after I finish The Man Without Qualities, I'm sure we could get some of the discord anons in on it
>>9287930
I almost broke down and ordered the first volume of that earlier today. Going to wait a bit longer, see if I can find it at a local store (doubtful), I already have enough books on backlog.

it is responses like this that make me hate these threads. There is no winning. If one were to buy all the books this place venerates, then you're a tryhard or meme-lord. Also, if one just honestly showed what one likes, they get eviscerated(internet).

Hiroshima Nagasaki is that you?
Has anyone else noticed how frugal this place is? Most forums where people show off their collections (of anything) include at least a few people who have gone overboard and spent many thousands of dollars, maybe tens of thousands of dollars. So where are the custom-built bookcases, accent lighting, rolling ladders, ivory bookends, etc?
Hey gois, Germanfag here. Here is my book shelf.
After American Psycho the German books are (from right to left): Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, Demons, A Raw Youth and The Brothers Karamazov. Between Rum Punch and Men Are Better Than Women, there is Chronicles of The Cthulu Myth - Part I in German, but I never got into it and think of selling the book - so, this is the only book I didn't read (and American Psycho but I just bought it and plan to start in the next couple of days).
>>9289596
Oh yeah, after American Psycho it actually starts with Narcissus and Goldmund, then with the works of Dostoyevsky.
>>9289589
Well, if you consider that here are mainly adolescents and NEETs on this site, it is plausible that they either don't have the cash or the insight on what to read next, or literature isn't their main hobby and there's only so much money and time to spend on it.
>>9289589

It's a fine start but where's the chronology? You have Nietzche without any prior modern philosophers. There's a 2,000-year gap in your collection. Void of pushkin and gogol, yet has dostoevsky?
I get it, one mustn't base the entirety of their studies chronologically, for it would take far too long, and you may only be interested in particular aspects of particular authors; that's fine.
However, if you happen to become serious about your studies, I'd suggest the approach of chronology. Im aware of the philosophical objections that come with this approach, but I find it efficient and pleasing.
do you guys like my books? 1/2
