When is this gonna get an anime adaptation?
Oh my god yes I am so glad someone is talking about this
How much did you love it? I loved it so much. I even emailed the author a question about Cato's book being a reference to Macbeth. I just bought the sequel the other day but I havent started it because I'm still alight with having recently finished the first. It's cray good for a first novel, right!?

Its a history of a Utopian (in the More sense) future written in an 18th century style. Gender is dealt with in a fascinating way, a religious order of a curious nature exists, political intrigue is central to the plot, so on.

Its not exactly what you think. The characters refer to people in a strictly neutral sense but the narrator uses gendered pronouns very specifically. He refers to some characters as she or he without that matching their physical makeup. Its very odd...I guess its like Samuel Johnson writing about a political version of Blade Runner.
What do you guys look for in a science fiction novel/series? I'm thinking about writing a sci-fi epic. It will include lots of interstellar politics, war, intrigue, etc. but it will also be sort of a space opera with lots of interesting situations and adventures. I want to stay away from the current dystopic trend in favor of something that's basically pure escapism.
