It's pretty much just a straight adaptation.
i wonder how long it took him to write Inherent Vice. it reads like a crisp summer breeze off the Pacific, by Pynchon standards. i've read it twice and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. is he really done with fiction, like Roth? his prowess does seem to be diminishing. Bleeding Edge was barely digestible.

Never read the book, but I thought the movie was terrible.

well, with Sortilege narrating, no trip to Vegas, and some of the funniest bits of the book omitted. plus, i wasn't fond of the final scene with Bigfoot, but that's just me.

depends, if you havent read the book you'll get a bit lost during the movie

Haven't yet read the book but i loved the movie. I read lot49 and GR after it. Fell in love.

I saw the movie and was like "wat". Then I read the book and watched the movie again and it was much better. It's a worthy adaptation but the book is still better.

he never said he was done
I like how most of the loose ends were tied up. Given his reputation I half-expected him to just leave them.

The adaptation does leave some pretty good scenes out tbqhfam

it's alright, it would've been great if the PCP trip was included
imagine a frantic psychdelic scene with bugs bunny imagery and Heroes and Villains by the beach boys playing, PTA really wasted an opportunity there
