I was watching an interview with George Carlin, and he says that a big part of a comic's routine is to make things seem humorous by the process of reductionism.

And it made me wonder, how is reductionism a viable form of argument, seeing as you literally take all the details and specifics out of a concept to suit your stance. Is that not just distorting truth?
