The Colour of Magic.
Lords and Ladies
It's a very nice, very subtle, criticism of aristocracy.

Small Gods is my favorite Discworld novel, and one of my favorite books.
The Light Fantastic
Small Gods is a great place to start. I'd also recommend Mort, Going Postal, or Eric.
Colour of Magic and Light Fantastic are the first ones written, but they lack the comedic punch Pratchett would develop later on in his career.

Small Gods and Sourcery was my intro, I can recommend them highly.
Honestly, I love most books, I find that the weakest ones were the earliest and the laters - Discworld was at its peak when it was fantasy satire, but it got too big and became it's own universe.
Anyway, the Sam Vimes stories are all pretty good (maybe not the later ones as much), and peak for me with either Thud! or Night Watch, which is some of the best books in the series.
The Death stories are great to - say, Soul Music and Thief of Time, Reaper Man....
Fuck it, I'm too big of a fan. Start with Small Gods. It really is good.

City Watch saga is pretty worth, specially Night Shift.
I agree that Small Gods is great. I even own it in two languages.
The Witches novels are fantastic, as are the Tiffany novels, but I would read 2 or three of the Witch novels first for context.
My first was Equal Rites, which is nice and short. Going Postal, Soul Music and Guards! Guards! are also good places to start.

I enjoy the later ones as well as the middle era of Discworld. Not as much, but more so because towards the very end it becomes clearer and clearer Pratchett is slipping away.
mort is pretty nice
also the one with the dragon attacking their city, forgot the name
Pic related is the best. The Hogfather is another personal favourite though. The PS1 Discworld games are also well worth a look if you enjoy Pratchett's humour.
