How was the introduction?

I really liked it. The prose was a bit like 1984, and the torture and apostasy also reminded me of 1984. But it felt less flat than Orwell and more emotional. It poses the reader difficult question about love and about compromise.

The plot itself is surprisingly thrilling and keeps itself tense to the very end. Maybe one of the best historical novels I've read, while still feeling relevant today.

It didn't do anything for me. The translation I read seemed mediocre and the plot was a snoozefest for me.
