Is The Road a good starting point for McCarthy?
I guess?? He's not really an author you need a "starting point" for. Read it if you want, but imho it's a bit shit. Blood Meridian is like "the" McCarthy book.
As far as I'm concerned, it's his weakest book. I'd suggest you rather look up Child of God or the Outer Dark or maybe the Border trilogy, but as the anon above me said, there's really no "entry point"

I started with No Country (very accessible) and went right to Blood Meridian. No problems here.

I'd read All the pretty horses before Blood Meridian, and maybe Child of God or No Country after.
Although I wasn't a real fan of No Country (movie seems to be excellent though). His way of writing in No Country was far-off from his other books.
