Because "sound" isn't an adjective, so I'd either have to break up the parallel structure, resulting in either:

both of which sound awful. The other option would be to eliminate the adjective and say:

That's not what makes cliches bad you fucking idiot. Cliches are bad because authors slot them in without thought, substituting anything interesting for something not.

Whatever the character of your cliches, if you have them, they will be equally bad. Why you would use them while simultaneously caring about anything but money, I don't know.
