Žižek has made me interested in continental thinkers in the Marxist tradition. Who do you think is most worth reading? Should I jump in with Althusser?
You might consider jumping in a bathtub with a hairdryer first.
you got to do post-structuralists if you want to do the full zizek
he is in their tradition, that structure explains the victory of capitalism

go for Debord and Lukacs, structural marxism was a dead end imo

Althusser is a meme, his essay on ideology might be worth a read but nothing more than that.
The Frankfurt School is the real place to begin, Walter Benjamin and Adorno

read Marx and then stop

I've been reading various early works of Marx, and it has really changed the way I view philosophy, this was a genius at work. Generally, I think he presents a persuasive critique of the philosophical tradition and the resolution of its major questions in political practice. Any philosophy after Marx that attempts an abstract, politically neutral viewpoint has to justify its method, since it is clear that every attempt at theorising involves a complex set of historical and social assumptions as well as the economic circumstances of the individual.
I've recently bought a doorstopper edition of Capital though so I'll get more serious about it.
