What? I'm not using it to be derogatory. He's fascinated and concerned with the jewish condition and it is apparent in his writng.
Pretend you're not a fucking idiot for a bit and consider a different perspective once in a while
>>9209647
Why?
He won the Pulitzer Prize and is highly regarded in certain circles.
Why does /lit/ hate him?
>>9209617
Good
Sabbath's Theater
Operation Shylock
The Ghost Writer
Meh
Portnoys Complaint
Pure Dribble
The Great American Novel
The rest
I haven't read the rest, so I have no opinion other that Jews and New Jersey are probably going to be mentioned
>>9209692
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HE WON AN AWARD HIGHLY REGARDED HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Why not explain yourself instead of sputtering nonsense like a pleb?
>>9209713
Hmm I can see that.
He was a key plot point in a recent episode of Girls.
>>9209692
i certainly didn't hate American pastoral. thats the only book i've read by him but i thought it was pretty great.
>>9209617
>main character is a writer
This is your first clue.
It's an Incredibly flabby, self-indulgent, draft-quality novel. A blatant grab for "muh great 'Murcan novel" without any of the required effort.
Roth isn't a total bust (Everyman, at least, is worth reading), but he's really just a prize-chasing hack. Seems like no editor has the balls to challenge him anymore.

Thanks for offering actual criticism. Duly noted.
