What kind of writers do we have among the /lit/eraturists?

Is anyone published? Anyone ever interested a publisher? Anyone got a professional agent or editor?

I got a story published in The New Yorker.

The fact that they printed it immediately made me lose all respect for them and for most of the people who make money disseminating other people's writing.

It is noble to write. It is not noble to gatekeep. I haven't submitted anything since. It was more than five years ago.

Did you have an agent at the time? I've heard that it's a fool's errand to do an unagented submission to the New Yorker.

If true, this constitutes a monstrosity. Why would you do that? It would be like a top of the class MIT grad deciding to work in McDonald's because particle physics was 'too easy'.
