i love dfw and pynchon, but i read white noise and it was very dry. i didn't laugh or learn anything through the narrative. i didn't even enjoy the prose. why do people praise it?
Correct. What was the point of Underwurst. Not gonna read 900 pages of that unless someone tells me why I oughta

Mao II is one of his best and an underrated book in general.

1. Underworld
2. Ratners Star
3. Mao II
4. Falling Man
This is my highly controversial list. Underworld is the synthesis of all of his work up until that point, connecting the many dots of post war America. Ratners Star because it is hilarious and intelligent. Mao II because his sentences were so crisp. And Falling Man because it captures, for me, the essence of post 9/11 anomie better than anything else I've read so far, a large departure from his omniscient works of the past.If you have never thought abstractly about your existence the essence of his books will escape you. I know how pretentious this sounds.
